Dear ,

Whether it’s because you have an old house, the previous owner made some poor design choices, or you just didn't notice when you moved in but there’s a good chance some areas of your home could be brightened up a bit. Below are a few ideas for adding some light to those dark corners of your house.

Additionally, we look at current trends in bathroom tiles and how to apply them to different areas of your bathroom. We hope you enjoy these articles.

Sincerely,

Is your bathroom in need of a refresh? One thing you can’t do without is tile. Tile is used throughout the bathroom, but it can be hard to keep up with the current trends since there are so many choices.

We put together a quick round-up of some of the bathroom tile trends we’re seeing so you can include them in your bathroom remodel project.

Tile Trends in Flooring
Flooring sets the tone for your bathroom’s design style. We are currently seeing flooring that is either simple and sleek or over the top with bright colors and patterns.

Here are a couple of our favorite trends:

Wood Look – Simple, lightly colored wood look tiles have moved from the kitchen into the bathroom. They create a timeless look, are easy to clean, and create a nice palette to work from when designing the rest of the bathroom.

Checkerboard – Bright checkerboard patterned tiles are also huge in bathroom design. They will be the star of the show, so the rest of your bathroom design will need to be a bit more modest.

Shower Tile Trends
Next up is the shower. We’ve seen white or gray subway tiles as the top trend in the last few years, but that is starting to change. Here are some ideas for a more up to date shower:

Wood Look
– Wood-look tile is incredibly versatile. While it is great as flooring, it also works in the shower to create an earthy, sauna-like feel.

Couple the wood look tile with dark natural stone tiles, and your shower will look like a spa.

Do you have a space in your home that is dark, gloomy, or maybe even a little spooky? Have you already tried all the easy home decor ideas that are supposed to help brighten up a space and still aren't happy?

If that's the case and you want to make a big change, we have some ideas on how to brighten up a dark room.

Open It Up
The best way to add more lighting to a dark space is to remove a wall and replace it with a window. The larger the window, the better. While this may sound like a huge undertaking, it may not be as bad as you think.

Depending on where the room is located, we could make small cutouts for windows to add some light. We could install a glass slider that allows you to access your yard if possible.

Get Help from the Ceiling
If opening up the room and adding a window is not an option, look up to the ceiling. Perhaps you could add a skylight which would light up the space from above. If you can't get a skylight, adding canned or recessed lighting will give you a similar result.

If adding lighting to your ceiling is simply not going to happen, at least make sure your ceiling has a fresh coat of paint to brighten up the room ever so slightly.

Do Something Unexpected
You've heard of accent walls. You've also probably heard about the design trick of using mirrors to bring more light into a space. Now, let's combine the two and use highly reflective tile to create a mirrored accent wall.

Glass mosaic tile comes in quite a few shapes, colors, and sizes. These tiles will add texture to your room while making it bright and exciting.

Brighten Up the Flooring
Dark flooring can make the entire room look dreary. Replacing your worn-out floors with a lighter color will instantly add light to your space.

We recommend going with a light hardwood floor or white tile floor. With either option, the light colors will help pick up and scatter any light that makes it into the room, which will help brighten up the area tremendously.

Paint
When all else fails, change the paint color. Dark paint colors only work when there is enough natural light to balance the space. If that's not the case in your room, you'll want to add a coat of light paint.

It's no secret that light, bright paint colors will brighten up a space and make it look larger. That doesn't necessarily mean that you have to have white walls. Light shades of just about any color will help to brighten up a space.

Ready to brighten up your dark space? We are here to help! Whether you want to go big and recreate the room with a new window or go with one of the other options, we will help you from start to finish. Give us a call to discuss your options.
