January 2022
Dear ,

We are only a couple of weeks into the new year, so most of us have not given up on our resolutions yet. But what if improvements to your home could help you keep those resolutions all year or at least until Summer?

Based on common New Year's Resolutions, we compiled a list of home renovations that can help you stay true to those promises you made yourself, and hopefully, get healthy, organized, and save some money.

And speaking of organization, we've also included a full article on creating an awesome walk-in closet. Enjoy!

Sincerely,

Tim Ellis and the T.W. Ellis Team

The walk-in closet didn’t become popular until the late 1980s, but now homes have walk-in closets larger than many bedrooms.

While large closets are a feature in many homes, they aren’t always as spacious, organized and efficient as they could be. If you have a large master closet, but you feel like it isn’t being used as it should be, here are some ideas on how to level up your master closet.
Give Yourself Enough Space
The ideal walk-in closet for two is 10 by 10, which will give you enough wall space for shelves, cubbies, a full-length mirror, and room to get dressed. Depending on how you arrange it, a 10 by 10 space may also give you enough room to have a small seating area where you can put on your shoes or fold laundry.

Within the space, you will want to make sure there is enough room to hang all your clothes, neatly store your shoes, as well as a space for jewelry, scarves, sunglasses, and whatever else you decide to keep in your closet.

Something that has become very popular is a center dresser where you can keep undergarments and other items. Don’t be afraid to install a custom piece here that you wouldn’t expect to see in a closet. The master closet of today is just as much about style as it is function.
Remodeling to keep your New Year’s Resolutions
Are you making New Year's Resolutions this year? If so, a good way to help you stay on track is to start at home. Let's take a look at some projects you can do around your house to help you stick with your 2022 goals.

Resolution: Get Healthy

Health and fitness goals are usually the most popular and the hardest to keep. Having space in your home to work on these goals will make it much easier to prioritize your health. These are a few ways you can do that:

Create A Workout Studio/Gym In Your Bonus Room
Having gym equipment inside your home makes it so much easier to squeeze in a workout. The process is pretty straightforward. You'll want to add rubberized floors and full-length mirrors to this space. Then bring in the treadmill, weight bench, or stationary bike, and you're good to go!

Build An Outdoor Kitchen
Being outside improves our mental and physical health, so why not build an outdoor kitchen. You can include a built-in grill to cook meals that center around lean proteins and veggies and also install a pizza oven for days when you feel like treating yourself.

Remodel Your Bath Into A Relaxing Sanctuary
You need a place in your home where you can relax, and the perfect spot for this is the bathroom. You can include a large soaking tub where you can unwind with a book. Add a large, walk-in shower, and if you have the space and the budget, a sauna or steam room.

Resolution: Get Organized

Having an organized home will make your life so much easier. You'll find that you will have less stressful mornings and more time to relax throughout the day when your home is organized. Here are some ideas of how to get started on your organization project:

Add Smart Storage To Your Kitchen
Adding shelving or pull-out drawers to your cabinets will make organization much easier. You'll be amazed at how big of a difference that small change can make.

Remodel Your Garage
If your garage is just full of stuff, you can install shelving or overhead storage to keep it off the floor and maintain space for your cars (you know, the things the garage was meant for).

Build A Walk-In Closet
Figure out a way to build a walk-in closet. Having extra space to store all of your clothes and shoes in a way where you can easily find them will make it easier to find an outfit in the morning – maybe you’ll even get to sleep in longer!

Resolution: Save Money

Another popular New Year's resolution is to save money. This one will be a challenge since the cost of everything has increased so much lately, but we have some ideas for you:

Create A Laundry Room With An Energy-Efficient Washer-Dryer
If you're after long-term savings, upgrading to Energy Star-certified appliances is a great way to do so. Not only will you be saving money, but you'll be helping the environment!

Install Low-E Windows
If your home is feeling colder than usual, you should look into getting new windows. Low-E windows will help you save on energy costs while keeping UV light out of your home.

Install Better Insulation
You'll save money on heating costs if you install better insulation since warm air won't be escaping through any holes or cracks. In addition to saving money, you will also prevent mold or water damage caused by a leaky roof, making your home safer and healthier.

Whatever projects you decide to tackle in the new year, we are here to help!
