Over the past years much emphasis has been placed on “Green Building” or “Green Remodeling.” Recently it has also been referred to as “High Performance Building.” This refers to a contractor adhering to principles in Building Science which consider the house as an integral unit and determine the best way for all of its subsystems to interact. Tim Ellis, Owner/President, is a national leader in the development of standards for High Performance homes. For several years now he has served as an advisor to Home Innovation Research Labs, the organization that developed the National Green Building Standard. He guided the efforts of the National Association of Home Builders while chairing its committee for Green Remodeling. His company, T.W. Ellis LLC, was the first in the country to certify a remodeling project under the National Green Building Standard.
T.W. Ellis LLC is a certified and accredited green builder/remodeler, as well as a full service professional contractor. These certifications are from some of the leading certification organizations in the country: the National Green Building Standard (NGBS) and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).
The National Green Building Standard (NGBS) is the only green building rating system for homes and apartments approved by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), as an American National Standard. The NGBS provides a blueprint for builders to follow for the design and construction of new and renovated single-family homes and multifamily apartment buildings.
A home or multifamily building can attain one of four performance levels — Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Emerald. For a building to attain any level of NGBS Green certification, all of the applicable mandatory provisions must be correctly implemented.

As green and high-performance construction turns to the mainstream, experienced green industry professionals seek an educational designation that signifies their long-standing commitment to and experience with sustainable building and remodeling. They find it with the Master Certified Green Professional (Master CGP) designation.
More than theory, this designation includes a series of hands-on curriculum requirements as well as significant experience in the field. Classes are held with the support and cooperation of Green Building Advisor, the leading green web publication in the field. The emphasis is on building science: a core competency in a field that changes almost daily as new products and techniques are introduced.
Like the Certified Green Professional course, the Master CGP classes are closely aligned with the ICC 700 National Green Building Standard, which includes chapters on energy, water and resource efficiency, indoor environmental quality, lot and site development and home owner education.
